Ghana-born multidisciplinary artist Blitz Bazawule at home in Decatur, Georgia for The New York Times. Bazawule’s directorial debut, The Burial of Kojo, premiered on Netflix, and he co-directed Beyoncé’s Black Is King, which earned him a Grammy nomination. Bazawule is directing the musical version of The Color Purple for Warner Bros, and the release of his debut novel, titled ’The Scent of Burnt Flowers’, was published by Penguin Random House. His artwork has been featured at the Whitney Biennial, and he is also a TED senior fellow and a Guggenheim fellow.
